23 Sep Spice It Up!

“Hallelujah! Autumn has joined us once again and we are beginning to cool off.” says this mild weather loving Northwesterner.

I know I’m in the minority here, but usually by the time we get to early July each year, I’m “over it” with the higher temps and constant sun. Misty mornings, partly cloudy skies, and 60ish degree days are my jam.

So having clarified that I must be part mystery vampire or something…I’m simply thrilled to have Autumn back with us in all of it’s breezy, leaf dropping glory.

One funny thing that happens to me each year around this time is that I suddenly become aware of “Pumpkin Spice” everything again. It’s like I forget that it will be becoming available soon, and then one day, to my great delight…

…Pumpkin Spice Latte!!

It brings a smile to my face to think of all of my sweaters, vests, scarves and other fall/winter garb that can come out. And I’m thiiiis close to breaking in the wood stove for this year.

If you are giving me the side eye because of my excitement over Fall, know that you are not alone, my Summer loving friend.

Stick with me, because I’m going to reveal my: Top 3 Ways To Enjoy Autumn in the Northwest!

#3 Organize Your Outdoor Suit

It’s time to ditch the spaghetti straps and reach for the hoodie. When heading out of town to the trails, put away those Tevas and get out your favorite lace up hiking shoes. Our hair will be getting wet again soon, so whatever you need to do to prepare the do…do that.

And remember: as our mornings become more misty, but our afternoons still get warm, layers will get you through.

#2 Bake Bake Bake

How about some fresh baked muffins on the next blustery saturday morning that comes along? Sounds pretty great, doesn’t it?

Now is the perfect time to try some new recipes as well as pull out your past favorites. Give each of them a whirl (one at a time might be best), and narrow down that holiday baking list for later. Think of this as organizing your winter baking strategy and getting ahead of the game!

#1 Burn, Baby Burn

My most anticipated Autumn activity is: fire! There’s nothing quite like wood heat. It warms the body and soul.

Now is the time to make sure that both your wood supply and fireplace/wood stove are ready for use! (I can hardly wait!!)

The area burn bans are just about expired for this year, which means I need to stock up on the beer and marshmallows as I prepare for my next evening bonfire.

Cooler temps are no problem with these versions of wood heat to enjoy.

Now, who’s up for some Autumn?? Let’s get equipped with our Pumpkin Spice and vest for extra layering, and get out there!
