15 Jun The Weight Of 2020
It’s been a minute since we published a new blog post. Usually, you see something new from us 2-4 times each month! But recently, I just haven’t had it in me to write or offer what feels like helpful/useful/uplifting additions to the world wide web. It has been more important to just…breathe.
For years, this platform has been a big part of our voice as we seek to encourage families and connect with expecting parents, hoping to ease your transition into life with new babies.
Lately, we’ve all been facing far more important issues than blogs that have the ability to boost our Google ranking, so I’ve let this platform rest. Like you, we at Doulas Northwest have been focused on keeping our families safe & healthy, holding fast while our world paused, and supporting the efforts that advocate for the safety & equity of each person in our society.
We are halfway through June of 2020 and it’s been a hell of a year so far. Predicting life’s evolution throughout the second half of the year is impossible, and yet I’ve seen glimpses of hope returning. Maybe you have too?
If there is one thing I know about new parents, it is that we are resilient. We know how to shift, adjust, redirect, reevaluate, and accept.
We are masters of the cat nap and all day snacking because we don’t have time to sit down for a proper meal.
We know how to meet in the middle for everyone’s benefit and still make sure our essential priorities are met.
So I have an ask of my own: Keep prioritizing your own care.
Keep thinking forward to the support you will need when your baby (or babies) come home. The dynamics around life changing issues like COVID-19 are heavy. Make sure you don’t respond to the heavy by denying your own needs for postpartum care & support.
We are here. We are not going anywhere. And we care more than ever about your well being as you grow your family.
